The American Association of Pesticide Safety Educators will host its national workshop at the Hotel Roanoke (Roanoke, VA) from September 7 through 9, 2016. This is the 25th Anniversary of AAPSE.

This year's workshop is being held in conjunction with Virginia Tech's 24th annual Virginia Pesticide Safety Educators Workshop (VPSEW). This train-the-trainer (TTT) event is designed to update Extension agents, specialists, and pesticide regulatory staff on the latest in pesticide safety education and compliance assistance. VPSEW is hosted in partnership with Virginia Cooperative Extension and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. This unique event should be helpful to those seeking information on how to conduct or refine a TTT event of their own.

The hotel is one of Hilton's new Curio Collection - there are only 25 of these unique properties worldwide. Owned by Virginia Tech, the hotel and conference center serves the region as part of a partnership with the city of Roanoke. The casual atmosphere and unique surroundings make for a pleasant guest experience. Most travelers shy away from hotel food, but the food at the HR is some of the best in the area. Don't miss eating in the hotel dining room during your stay. See below for link to lodging room reservations.

WORKSHOP REGISTRATION (this does not reserve your lodging - a separate link is provided below for room reservations) -- WORKSHOP AGENDA (full agenda link)

We ask you to reserve tickets for each part of the event you are attending. For example, if you plan to attend the entire workshop, you will reserve four tickets (one each as listed below). For others this may not be the case. If you decide not to attend the tour, you would secure only three tickets, and so on. Here are the descriptions of the tickets needed to register for the conference.

The cost of registration is free to AAPSE members holding a current membership status. If you aren't an active member we ask you to join AAPSE to attend. This will cover your registration for the entire workshop.

Ticket #1 - Sept. 7 - AAPSE Tour - starting at 8:00 am at the hotel, AAPSE members will board a tour bus to Blacksburg. Refreshments and a grab and go breakfast will be provided for those on the tour. Stops on the tour include the Virginia Tech campus and two aerial vehicle demonstrations (UAVs and Summit Helicopters). We plan to eat lunch (catered by Due South BBQ) at New River Junction. The bus will return to Roanoke and drop you off at the Taubman Art Museum where you can tour the exhibits and return to the hotel for a welcome reception with light fare (at 6:00 pm in the Shenandoah Room). You will then be free to eat dinner in the area restaurants if you so desire.

Ticket #2 - Sept. 8 - AAPSE/Virginia PSE Workshop (train-the-trainer) combined sessions. This runs from 8:00 am until the afternoon when the AAPSE workshop continues (without VPSEW) until dinner. This will include continental breakfast and lunch. The luncheon is a joint event with VPSEW. As such it will include a welcome by Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture Sandy Adams and Virginia Tech administrators. Commissioner Adams is there to present awards to Virginia Extension agents for outstanding PSE programs in 2015. This is a routine part of the TTT workshop -- an example of the strong partnership maintained by the Virginia SLA and Extension. After lunch AAPSE continues with its own workshop for the afternoon.

Ticket #3 - Sept 8- AAPSE Awards Dinner/25th Anniversary Celebration. This starts at 5:30 pm and continues until about 10:00 pm. A separate ticket is required to enable us to gain an accurate headcount for this activity. Bring your ticket to the event for a drawing to win a prize.

Ticket #4 - Sept 9 - AAPSE Business Meeting - starts at 8:00 am and continues until 11:00 am. This includes a continuous break (foods) throughout the session. This is open to all members.

Again, as mentioned earlier, if you plan to attend the entire meeting including the tour, you should reserve four tickets. If not, then please reserve the appropriate number of tickets that correspond to your attendance.
